~ Poems of Love ~

The following poems have been written by me, for my husband Hamada, who suffered from Multiple Myeloma [IgG Kappa] a cancer of the plasma cells, which are found in the bone marrow. After many months of chemotherapy, contracting pneumonia twice, once given only twelve hours to live and having three bad fractures to his spine and also showing in his Pelvis, he made it to four years seven months. The Multiple Myeloma attacked his Kidneys first showing at diagnosis in May 2006 leaving Hamada only a small percentage of kidney function. He never complained, using his most amazing smile even when I knew he had severe pain. Hamada underwent a Stem Cell Transplant using his own 'harvested stem cells' . During October 2007 he spent seventeen days in the "Centre For Clinical Haematology" at Nottingham City Hospital UK. where he achieved this transplant. We had a scare at six months after transplant, when told 'the beast was back' but subsequent tests showed a partial remission. Again in early 2009 it was confirmed that Hamada was out of remission He fought again during 2010 with newer chemo type drugs. First with Velcade and then with Revlimid but to no avail. His Kidneys were failing further and Hamada chose not to have dialysis. This blog contains poems and updates, written for Hamada, telling of our life together.
Now a beautiful book has been published, see http://www.susiehemingway.com/books/
showing Hamada's personal fight against Multiple Myeloma in the first fifty 'poems of love' written by me his wife. I hope you like these poems of love and also 'our story' dedicated to Hamada, who passed away peacefully at home on 23 November 2010 after a most courageous fight against Multiple Myeloma.

My Work Here Is Finished.

There will be no more entries here, Hamada's journey is now complete and so all further writing will be over at http://www.susiehemingway.com/ starting with "A Snow Covered Village In December" which tells about the weekend of 'celebration of Hamada's life'. Thank you dear ones who have followed faithfully here, for all your wonderful comments that spurred us on daily, for all your superb support that helped us keep up the fight against the most difficult disease of Multiple Myeloma. I send all my very best wishes, hope and love, to those who continue to fight the battle against Multiple Myeloma. I will continue with my support and my hope, that a cure will soon be found.

Dear Susie;

Reading your last entry caused me to let out a long sigh of regret. Regret that Hamada's and your valiant battle against MM ended.

I can't thank you enough for sharing the details of your effort since I discovered your site 2+ years ago. The beauty of your poetry and prose and photographs gave me ( and many, many others-I'm sure) comfort and hope.

Your grace under protracted distress set an example to which I aspire. Your love for Hamada inspired me to remember that life is a precious gift. It deserves nothing less than the extraordinary tribute that "Susie Hemingway-A Power Within" represents.

Thank you,

John Smith

I changed links, but the name A Power Within Remains, and will do so for as long as my blog exists.

It is "we" who thank you and Hamada for continuing to offer hope, humor, love, compassion and understanding.

Thank you Dear John for your kind comments left here. May you continue to stay well. I will continue to read all the lovely words you write and you will remain in my prayers for I know there will be a cure soon. Peace and blessings. Susie.

Thank you Dear Michael, for all your wonderful support to us both during these difficult years and for your continued praise for my 'words'.
I will always read "Rescuing Providence" and follow closely your career and hope we will always remain good friends. Maybe one day you and your wife will visit our little village here in the lincolnshire wolds. I sincerely hope so.

Great inspiration indeed. It was impossible to have any contact with Susie & Hamada without falling deeply in love with this beautiful couple. Their love story surpasses any of I know of to date and Susie's devotion to her beloved husband was a model for all caregivers. She worked tirelessly for his care and to promote awareness of this dreaded disease along with giving profits from her beautiful book of poetry to Myeloma UK. And son, Jo was right there doing his part with vocal recordings reflecting his feelings. What a lovely family - I crown them the royalty of the MM world. I'm so honored to be their friend a because of that and I cry for their great loss. God be with all. ~Lora

I will be updating mine as well over the next couple of days, Susie (I'm on the job and the computer I'm writing from has limits). But I'm going to do the same as Michael is with the link name - it is the right thing to do.

:)

A visit to the lincolshire woods would be simply fabulous! I'm keeping it on my "bucket list!"

@ Michael You and yours would always be welcome. (Spring or Summer is always best)
Just one little thing, where we live is known as the "Lincolnshire Wolds" (not 'woods') an area of about 9x20 miles. Check it out on Google Micheal, it explains well this unique area. All best wishes for a very merry Christmas and great New Year.

@ Walt and Martha - same goes to you both, if you are ever this way - please look us up, you would be most welcome it's about 170 miles from London Heathrow.

Sorry, I just found out now what happened to your husband, Hamada. Please, accept my condolences. I have just visited your website, tried to leave a comment, but the system was not letting me. Your latest offering was as beautiful as it was sad.

Thank you "Cuban In London" Yes I have completed my work here but will still be writing on www.susiehemingway.com - hope to see you there. Sincere good wishes.

Susie: I can't put into words how much you and Hamada have meant to me, an unmet stranger from far away. Your words have touched me deeply. I will move over to your other site and will relish every post. Much love, Sean.

Thank you Dear Sean for your very kind comments. It makes me happy to know that by blogging this journey of our dear Hamada has perhaps helped a little for others following a similar path. We must always remember for people reading here that also have MM, that all blood cancers present themselves in different ways. Although Hamada had yearly check-ups during his adult life, something was dreadfully missed and by the time of diagnosis his kidneys had been so badly affected. He did very well to survive the time he did. For others now the outlook is very much better. I wish you a long and happy life with good treatment as I do all others who suffer likewise and who also read Hamada's journey.
Sincere regards to you and your lovely family.
